Genesis Connected - Lighthouse Kettering

The fifth musical treat in this burst of gigs takes us to the Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering.  I'm not sure why it is called the 'Lighthouse' being so far from the sea? Anyway, it was opened in 2008, has 424 tiered seats at ground floor level and a further 143 in the balcony with six private boxes. I have been here once, a few years ago to see 'Genesis Connected' I think they could be described as a local band with most of the band originating from the Kettering, Corby and Northampton area.
The Famous 'Double Drums'
We look pretty much all set to go. From what I can tell it looks like a sell out show. It was a last minute decision to get tickets really. On the back of the Steve Hackett concert midweek it felt like a bit more Genesis would go down well. We managed to get a couple of tickets at the back of the stalls. The perfect seat to slump down, and let a pre concert  carvery meal and a couple of pints settle.

The very talented Pete Bultitude
Larger than life front man Pete Bultitude achieved national fame in 1999, or 5 trouser sizes as he likes to call it. It was at that time that he made the Grand Final of the TV show 'Stars in Their Eyes'. The classic hits of Genesis, Phil Collins and Mike and the Mechanics come thick and fast.

There looks to be at least one line up change since I last saw the band. Taking up guitar duties is 'Red Litchfield'. More of a showman than the previous incumbent of the six string. I was going to put flashy but that might be a little harsh. Especially as he is on his home patch, in front of his family and friends. Having seen two guitar greats in the last week (Steve Rothery and Steve Hackett) in the last week. Maybe I have just been spoiled?

It really is an incredible mix of material, from 70s onwards including; Turn It On Again, Mama, Sledgehammer, In The Air Tonight, Over My Shoulder, Against All Odds, That’s All, You Can’t Hurry Love,Sledgehammer, The Living Years and many more. My personal highlights were, 'Home by the Sea' 'I know what I like in your Wardrobe' (The Lawnmower Song) 'Land of Confusion', 'Jesus He Knows Me' and of course the wonderful Solsbury Hill. Pete Bultitude, is not only an incredibly versatile vocalist, he is also an excellent  drummer. It is great to see the  iconic “double drums” element as featured on every Genesis and Phil Collins tour.

The band  return for much demanded encore. The majority of the audience are now up on their feet, me included.

The three year gap caused by Covid has been worth the wait. Based on this performance they are certainly one if not the best UK Tribute band.
